Subject Line: Just a thought

This is a little e-mail exchange Job and I had the other day. I know, it's a bit saccharine, but I just love Job's reply. Such a typical Job response, it made me smile like a goof for a long time at work.

Rachael: I love you to the moon and back!! You are the bacon to my eggs, the jelly to my peanut butter.

Job: You are the coke to my tostadas con salsa, in fact you are the salsa in my tostada, you are the lime juice on my pepino!

That my friends, is very high praise :)

Double Meaning

A conversation Job had with our 85 year old Italian landlord/neighbor/grandma

Sue: I called you earlier but no answer. I thought maybe you were in horizontal position (wink).

Job: Oh yeah, we went to bed late and got up early so after lunch we hit it.

Sue: Yes that's what I thought. I called my son and I was telling him that I don't like to bother people when they are in "horizontal position" even though I had dinner to bring to you.

Job: Sue you can come down and bother us anytime you want.

Sue with big eyes and a big smile: I don't want to bother people when they are having sex! (wink, wink)

Job bursting out laughing: Oh is that what horizontal position means?!

Sue laughing: Don't you know anything about life?

Never a dull moment :)

This.Is.Jeopardy!

The scene: Job and Rachael driving, listening to the radio. The NPR radio host and Ken Jennings are answering caller's questions.

Rachael: Oh, it's Ken Jennings.
Job: Who is he?
Rachael: You know, the guy who won on jeopardy like 7 times {74 to be exact ;) }, I think he's Mormon, he is really rich now....
Job: Oh yeah, I stayed at his house for a weekend once. He's nice.

Oh yeah. I guess you remember who he is! ;)

Just a few Job quotes for your weekend

J: What is Becca's last name? Gardner?
R: Yes. Gardner.
J: As in, Kevin Garnett
R: No. Not as in Kevin Garnett.
???
I couldn't stop laughing at this one. P.S. KG is one of our loved Boston Celtics players. ___________________________________________________________________________

The scene: Job and I just got new phones. We have been sharing 1 cell phone for years and finally each got our own. He was obviously excited about it. I was in the living room working on the computer when I heard Job call me from the bedroom. I went in and he told me this little ditty of a story.

J: I called you on your phone just now. I said,

"hey baby, come in the room, I have a surprise for you" (seductive voice and all)

"Me": What? Who is this?

J: haha, come on, it's me. Come on in here. You will be glad you did.

"Me": Come where? What are you talking about?

J: Stop teasing, I know you are in the living room, just come on!

"Me": How do you know I am in the living room?! Who is this?!

 J: *click*

It suddenly dawned on him that it wasn't his wife he was seducing on the phone. Oops. Poor, poor girl. I can see her frantically calling the cops saying some guy is watching her in her living room. Ultimate wrong number story.

This guy keeps me laughing. I just love him bunches :) It was his birthday on Wednesday so we have been celebrating little by little in our free time. I am excited to continue on this evening.

I hope you do something fun tonight too!

Oh yeah and,
Have a great weekend friends!

Getting on board

Job and I had a wonderful date this afternoon at a hip little sandwich shop in Cambridge, and then to hear Leonidas Kavakos and the BSO perform.
We had stimulating conversation, took a walk enjoying the Spring blooms in Boston, and just enjoyed each other's company.

And to top it all off, this is what I got as I dropped Job off to school:

Job:  Oh no honey, we didn't take pictures of our sandwiches!

So cute. I fell in love again. This guy is not only getting used to my taking pictures of everything, he is now reminding me to!

Don't worry hun, we'll remember next time! ;) I love your guts.

{I did however snap this little gem outside the restaurant. How sweet. And to think I didn't even remember to call.}

Guess I'll be doing our whites a little less often then ;)

We were making our bed with fresh sheets the other night and this little convo went down:

Job: Ahh, this will be so much nicer, we haven't changed our sheets in forever!
Rachael: Nuh-uh, I just changed them not too long ago...
J: No, that was like 2 whole weeks ago!
R: 2 weeks?!?! Heaven forbid, we are living in squalor!
J: Sheets need changed often! They're like underwear, they need to be changed Every Week!!

R: bahahahahaha!
ha

I promise you, a guy that changes his sheets weekly changes his underwear a little more frequently ;)

Hair and Humble

I got my hair cut and styled the other day, which was about 1 1/2 years overdue. Boy did it feel good! And I promised my stylist, Russanne (she's awesome you should check out her blog) I would turn over a new leaf and actually do my hair more often ;) But she said my hair was healthy so, you know, points for me and all that.

Sorry for the not-so-great self portrait. Job was not available to take my beauty shots ;)

In other news....
Job rocked a master class with a hot-shot violinist the other day so we went out for a little late night treat to celebrate. I asked if I could blog about his happy news (proud wife here ;) but he looked all shy and said, "oh no, don't tell anyone, I just wanted to celebrate with you". But I insisted so he said, "o.k. well, you can only put 'he did alright' or something like that". haha ok love,

He did alright.

I tease him, but his modesty really is attractive to me. So I'll take on the job of bragging a little bit for him ;) He is doing really well in school and growing so much as a musician. I love this guy.

Kid quote

My sis-in-law just shared this tid-bit on her blog tonight and I had to pass it on. It made me laugh :D Love this kid.

"Look a Mexican, can it take its clothes off?" -4 year old Parr
"Parr that is not a Mexican, it is a mannequin" -His mom

hehe.

Obsessed? Really Rach?

The other day at church I saw a girl who came back from summer vacation looking very much more pregnant than when she left (much more? Sounds good). Her and a friend of mine who is also pregnant (True fact: About 95% of the women in our ward are currently pregnant/just had a baby.) were chatting it up when I came up and bombarded them with a,

"HI! Welcome back, you look cute! I am obsessed with pregnant people!" (that's really what I said. I know.)

She was sweet and gave me a polite smile and then started backing away slowly.

"No wait, I'm not going to steal your baby or anything! Wait!"

So the truth's out. Except maybe I should re-phrase it to "the miracle of birth" instead of "people". Because being obsessed with people freaks them out a tad. My neighbor upstairs is also currently pregnant so she has to deal with my love of baby bumps on a daily basis. Poor girl. But she's awesome and puts up with my personal pregnancy questions, and me talking and singing to her belly and such. Today's the day she and her husband find out if they are having a boy or girl (my guess: boy). In keeping with my obsession I made them this for when they get home:

Just got to fill in the blanks when they tell me haha :D Oh and that extra square is for an !, because it's gonna be a boy.

So my obsession may be a little odd but really, when you think about it, pregnancy/birth is amazing so I'm rolling with it.

Oh, and as to whether I am pregnant.... WOULDN'T YOU LIKE TO KNOW!
no. I just like when other people are :)

Overheard

Job and I's conversation in the kitchen tonight.

Job: I want to buy you some nice Gucci shoes*.
Rachael: I don't want nice Gucci shoes.
Job: But I really want to buy you some nice shoes! You need some shoes! I am going to do it.
Rachael: No! Please don't buy me shoes! Noooooooooo!!!!**
Etc...
*??? since when do we buy Gucci Jobito? ;)
**Slightly dramatized for effect. But only slightly.

How many husbands argue with their wives about making them buy clothes and shoes? I believe typically it is the other way around... ;) I think my goal of paying off the student loans super quick has made me even more cheap than I was before (is that possible?). This past year I have avoided buying things for myself like the plague.

In other important news, Job has taken to calling me "silly boobs" as a term of endearment lately. He assures me it is just because it has a "certain ring to it" but I am still not sure how I should take that...
I guess it's a guy thing.

The belly rules the mind. ~Spanish Proverb

Setting: A few weeks ago while we were having dinner with my family.

Rachael to Job: I love you
Job in a major food daze replied with dreamy eyes: I love food

hmm...not your typical reply to "I love you". But I give him points for being original ;)

P.S. If you like food check this site out. Drooool.

My day in 5 words and a picture

  • Revise
  • Sun
  • Sushi
  • Bolero
  • Jobito
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Speaking of Bolero, I really wanted to go once I saw the BSO was doing it. I had to beg and plead Job to go with me. Out conversation went something like this:
Rach: Hey we should go see them perform Bolero, I love that piece!
Job: O.k.! I already got tickets.

:)

I love being able to enjoy music with you Jobito! And that I don't have to drag you to the symphony/ballet/opera/theater etc. In fact, you are usually the first one to suggest going! You are quite the cultured guy.
I love you.

Add Some Spice to Life!

I was in the living room when I suddenly heard Job call out from the kitchen:
Honey, we are hot lovers!!
(apparently he was inspecting the empty bottle of jalapenos in the fridge that we had scarfed down in a week)

I quite agree with that sentence. Whichever way you want to take it ;)

I can be crafty. If it try reeaallly hard!! :)

The other night we had a Relief Society activity where a lady from the ward came and taught us how to make different fabric flowers. Mine were less than anthropologie worthy, but turned out ok and I will sure as shootin' wear them proudly ;)
After that evening I came home with some extra scraps and looked up a new way to do flowers. Here is what I came up with to add some color to my Easter outfit:

While I was attempting to artfully capture my beautiful bloom Job looked over and confusedly asked me:
Why are you taking pictures of your boob?
Go figure that is what he notices and not the cute flower I slaved away to make ;)

Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured. -Gordon B. Hinckley

Check out Job and I's Boston Bucket List! :) I am excited to start crossing more things off the list (and add some more too. It is a work in progress :) It is a mix of things we want to do/accomplish in the next few years. It has things like finish grad school and a lot of sightseeing we want to do around New England, but also random fun things like skinny dipping, paying for someone's toll behind us, and learning chess (For me. Job is already a chess master. Hot nerd alert! ;)

Which brings me to these little flea market finds:
The monopoly card game was brand new, never been played for 50 cents, and the 1000 piece puzzle was a whopping 30 cents. Well it just so happens that something on our bucket list is to complete a 1000 piece puzzle together. When I saw this thing I snatched it right up :) I am not really one to put a puzzle up on the wall after finishing it so I didn't really care what the puzzle looked like (and didn't want to spend $15 on a new one). So there we go, a loverly snow scene for us to complete together :) haha I am excited about it, it will just be fun to spend the time together and work on completing it.

Anyone have more great ideas of what to add to the bucket list? Something fun or interesting that you are so glad you did? :)

Tuna and Chickpea Salad + plus a cute Job quote :)

This salad is great with some baked wheat tortilla chips, wrapped in a fresh pita, or just on its own! Super quick, easy, healthy and inexpensive.
I told Job we were having chickpeas for lunch and he said,

I get why they are called chickpeas. Because once the outside layer is gone they do look like little cheeks :) (he thought they were called cheekpeas hehe. I could just die, that man is so cute :)

Anyways, here 'tis for your eating pleasure:

Tuna and Chickpea Salad
  • 1 (5 ounce) can tuna, drained
  • 1 (16 ounce) can chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained
  • 1 (2.25 ounce) can black olives, chopped (optional. Job doesn't like 'em but I do)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 red onion, chopped
  • lemon, juiced
  • 1/4 cup crumbled reduced-fat feta cheese, or more to taste
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Stir the tuna, chickpeas, olives, parsley, red onion, lemon juice, and feta cheese together in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper.

Forgive the messy bowl. Any food blogger would be horrified ;) But this is really is just a "throw and go" recipe which I like.

Nephew-isms

My 4 year old nephew is the bomb. And adorable to boot. My sis-in-law shares some of his quotes on her blog and I just had to re-post them here for reading pleasure. I love kids. Especially "my kids" (nieces and nephews).
"V's and W's are spooky at night." -We were reading a book and talking about imagination.

"My calling in life is sharing." Trying to convince me that he is sharing with Symantha (his little sister. I can just see him saying this one all dramatic haha)

"There are two kinds of milk, one from cows and the other from the store." - said as Parr and I were talking about needing to get some milk

I have to agree, those V's and W's get me sometimes.... ;)

He loves his little sis :)

Most of the time ;)

Proud new brother :) And a little ham
Can you tell I love these kids? Just a little. ;)

The whole conversations was filled will awesome little Maren-isms ;) It gave me the good laugh I needed today. Love ya sis!
Little Maren when we lived in England. In the barfing squirrel at the park

She is now a beautiful Senior in High school and going to my Alma mater when she graduates. So proud of her!
